The unfinished square should be 12.5 inches. That means we can make scrappy quilts with 30 blocks (5×6) to get to the recommended size of 60 x 70 inches. Or 20 blocks (4×5) with a border. ONLY BOY-appropriate squares will be accepted, however. Novelty fabric is good — could be sports, music, outdoors, animals, etc. Pair it up with a contrasting bright color, and voila! Or just two nice fabrics that are not pink, not flowers and not girly. See the pattern at the table or online at the NPQ website. The easiest Square in a Square is a 4-inch square (cut 4.5 “) centered– with 4 inches border all around. But ANY square within square is OK — so the inside square can be 2 inches or 3 inches or 6 inches — and does not have to be centered!

What matters is that we all participate a little to support the guild’s charities. So please make some blocks, donate some colorful strips (4.5” wide), take a kit, donate a back, or make a quilt –everything is welcome.
If you are making a quilt, try to aim for 60 x 70 inches. Any questions, just ask! Keep those cheerful quilts coming. Looking forward to another productive season.

Many thanks,

Jean Osborn
