   President’s Note:

My thanks to everyone who participated and made blocks for the Quilts of Valor challenge from the Moda website. I collected 57 blocks from NPQ members which were shipped out to Moda for the Quilts of Valor – Flag Day goal of 100 quilts. I have added the link to Quilts of Valor organization  The goal of this organization is to hand a quilt to every member of the armed services touched by war. There is an ongoing request for donated quilts – information is at the website and the requirements are at
My thanks and gratitude to everyone that helped out.

We have a few positions that will need to be filled for next year; Membership Coordinator, Refreshment Coordinator, and Block of the Month. The requirements for the positions are as follows:

Membership: collect dues and give money to treasurer, update membership list, help update membership packages, new member support-answer questions and make them feel welcome, give out membership pins.

Refreshments:  have a sign-up sheet for every month that we meet that need deserts (7 months), call the people on that list a few days before the meeting to remind them to please bring in their little goodies. Set up napkins, plates, refreshments,  and make sure the church kitchen is cleaned up at the end of the night.

Block of the Month: select 10 block patterns – one for each meeting, make sure block is given to newsletter coordinator each month, have mock up of block to show members for the next month, collect blocks & hand out tickets, give blocks to winner of raffle. Remember these jobs can be shared with one or more members making it an easy and enjoyable time. Anyone interested, please see me.

There will be a ballot handed out to each member as they check in at the hospitality table to get raffle ticket or name badge. Please make sure you pick one up and fill it out immediately as we have a speaker at the May meeting. Once you have filled it out please find Gayle Blake and hand it to her. She will check your name off the list. The ballots will be tallied at the next Board meeting, May 16th at “Quilters Common” and the results announced at the June meeting. All members are welcome to all the board meetings.

  North Parish Fat Quarter Raffle

Remember to bring a fat quarter to swap limited to 3 per person. This month’s theme will be Novelty Fabrics. Please see Joan Legor and get a ticket to win the bunch.

Free Table

Don’t forget to check out the free table at the back of the room before and after the meetings.  Anything quilt related is welcome – please feel free to “put and take”.  If you bring fabric and it is still there at the end of the night you may take it home or put it in the P.U.P. box to be made into blankets and donated to the North East Animal Shelter. If you bring anything else quilt related and it is still there at the end of the night please bring it home with you. This is a great way to recycle magazines, notions
and unwanted fabric. Scraps are also welcomed.

RoseMary Koch is looking for the following issues of American Quilter August thru December 2007 and January & February of 2008.

            Charity New Update

Hole In The Wall

Hi Everyone,

Camp quilt totals are climbing- to date we have 51 Beautiful quilts all labeled and ready to go along with 127 great pillow cases. We are still looking for a few kits to finish the quilts up, please check your sewing area. There are many quilts to be finished off to get ready for delivery in June.

There is a need for fabric of course, with doing so many quilts for many years our own stashes have decreased. Do you have fabric you thought you needed and now has collected dust. These donations are strictly used for camp, and certainly will be used.

Remember we could not have created so many quilts without your help.

Thank you so much for your time,

Marcia deBrigard, Pat Winter Jean Osborn

And We Are Off!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by my little impromptu display at  the last meeting to see the 2012 raffle quilt block. Thank you especially to all who took packets of blocks with them.  One good soul is actually returning them to me through the mail or in my mailbox at home – talk about service!

It will be important to get all the blocks returned to me.  If you have taken a block  (there are actually two in a package) and see you will not have time to complete it, please just give it back.  I now have people waiting to sew blocks, and will have plenty of packets ready to go at the May (already?!) meeting.

For those of you who do not know how this works, we actually make two quilts – one to raffle for income, and one to raffle to the worker bees.  For each fat quarter (pinks and blues especially welcome at this point) of bright spring fabric you contribute, you get a chance to win the members quilt.  For each block you sew, you also get a chance to win the members quilt.   Lest you worry about your chance to get in on the members raffle, we are still only working on the first quilt. There will be plenty of opportunity to earn your chances still to come!

A special Thank You to Brenda Lane for proofing the first set of directions.  Her suggestions led to a much simpler and clearer format.

Please return your block in May if possible.  I will be pinning them to a background to show our progress. You ladies are GREAT!

Also, please feel free to call me if a question or problem arises with  sewing.  781-944-4664.

Happy stitching!

 Deborah Feinn
